Garmin Express Disable Auto Start Up | Easy to Change

In this guide I will show you how to disable auto start in Garmin Express. A couple reason you might want to do this is to free up resources on your computer, or if you don’t use the app that often, no need to have it open all the time. It is very easy to make this change and can easily be re-enabled if you choose to.

These instructions are for Mac computers, but I would guess that the instruction are similar on a PC. If you tried on PC drop a comment down below and let us know how it went!

The first thing we need to do is make sure that Garmin Express is running on the computer so we can access the preferences. Once running go to the top menu bar on your Mac. Look for Garmin Express. It is the triangle and when hovered one of the options is Garmin Express... to make it east to find. Select the Preferences... options.

Garmin Express - Preferences Menu Option

Once the Preferences modal has loaded we want to uncheck Always keep Garmin Express running in the background.

Garmin Express - Preferences

Now that the option is unchecked Garmin Express will no longer startup each time you start you mac computer. If you want to change this back you can follow the steps above, then make sure Always keep Garmin Express running in the background is checked.

Wrap Up

As you can see it was easy to disable auto start in Garmin Express. Why do you prefer to keep it running or not running in the background? Personally, I only like to have programs running when I need them. Since I do not use this very often and sync through my phone, I prefer it to not auto start by default.

  1. Doesn’t work. Garmin launches on startup of Windows 10 even with auto start unchecked.

    • Interesting, did you try with both options unchecked? Does that make any difference? I have not heard of it not working for others.
