Parking & Getting to Crown Point to Bayside Trail

Getting to the trail is very easy. If you are looking to do some distance and start at one end as I did, my favorite place to park is at Crown Point Park parking lot. This parking lot will have parking on most days. If there is an event or a holiday, it will be extremely difficult like most of the area. If that is the case, you can look to park inside the neighborhoods or surrounding areas.

The parking lot does have gates that close. At the time of writing this, the current close time is 10 PM but that could change. If you will be around in the very early morning or late night, make sure to pay attention closely to the signs.

Keep in mind this trail spans through Crown Point and Mission Bay allowing you to start and stop wherever you want. Parking at one end or the other just makes it a bit easier to do an out-and-back walk, run, or bike ride.

Crown Point to Bayside Trail

The trail is open at most hours of the day. Some parts of it are well-lit, while other places are not. You will find the locals using this for regular commuting, running, biking, and walking. At almost all hours of the day, you will find people around.

Bringing your dog on this trail is allowed, but only at certain times of the year, and certain hours of the day. You will see signage around the path that explains the rules. You can see an example of these signs with the dog policy below. Keep in mind this could change, so pay attention when you arrive.

There are at least two sets of bathrooms along the route. The first is at the Crown Point Parking lot and the second is at Fanuel Street Park about half way. Sorry I did not get any pictures of it. There were too many kids at the park, and just like I don’t want people taking pictures of my kids, I don’t feel comfortable taking pictures of someone else’s. A quick google search should get you enough details. Its a nice, simple park, right on the water with bathrooms. Doesn’t get much better than that in my opinion.

One of my favorite things about this trail is just the ability to relax and enjoy. I used to live in the area for a few years and would take this route to and from work each day on my beach cruiser. Catching the sun, listening to the ocean, and just being around happy people really have a positive impact on the experience. Of course, you do run into chaos depending on the season, but that is to be expected anywhere by the water.

Crown Point to Bayside Trail is paved the entire route making this great for kids and strollers. We regularly bring our kids here and have a blast every time. Something we really enjoy doing with our kids is having a picnic. We will bring a large blanket and eat by the ocean before we carry on with our adventure.
