Wrights Field is a 2.28 mile trail with 200 feet of elevation gain and is located near Alpine, CA. This hike is a very large field so there are unlimited possibilities to the routes you can take. I went towards a hill and was the main reason for my elevation gain.

Parking & Getting There

When you arrive to the trail head there are two places that you can park. One is in the dirt lot at the trail head.

At the time I went this has some decent muddy spots and divots from recent rain. While I could have navigated it in my Ford Explorer, I choose to use the 2nd option. I parked on the shoulder just across the street.

Directions to the Trail Head: Google Maps. As you can see in the image below, the red lines represent your two parking options. The green line is the route I took for the trail, but you can see there are plenty of options of trails to start with. Eventually they all end up to similar locations by connecting them together.

The Trail

As the name implies, this hike / walk is really through a very large field. Looking at the map above, you can see that there is a TON of different routes that you can take. I chose to start on the outside route of the field, then cut back through the middle.

No matter where you go on this trail the views will be about the same since the trail is flat for the the most part. You are surrounded by countryside like nature and get to see a few of our big mountains in the background during your adventure.

There were no bathrooms at this trail. Also there is not much shade, so pay attention to the weather before heading out here. It can get hot in alpine and last thing you want to do is be at the farthest point from your car and get thirsty.

There is plenty of trail signage around the field, but since its a bit of a “choose your own adventure” style, you will need to remember where you came from so you are able to navigate back to the car.

Lookback

Overall Wrights Field near Alpine was a great place to do a little exploring. I wouldn’t travel too far for it, but I would take advantage if I lived closer. A great place to take the pup for a walk!
